The Pavestone Rally 2019

This year, the Big Hair Fair at the Goat will be supporting a local tean competing in the Pavestone Rally in a car costing under £500 to raise money for three worthy charities.

Once again Cembrit is teaming up with Chandlers to enter the Pavestone Rally 2019 which is taking place from the 5th to the 9th of September.  The aim is to drive from the UK via Reims, Stuttgart, Salzburg and Venice to finish four days later at Lake Como in a car costing less than £500, completing lots of challenges along the way and all in aid of three very good causes;

  • Variety, which improves the lives of children and young people throughout the UK who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged,
  • the Teenage Cancer Trust, the only charity dedicated to providing expert treatment and support to the seven young people aged between 13 and 24 who are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK, and
  • the Rainy Day Trust, the UK’s only charity supporting the home improvement workforce and their families in times of need.

Since the first industry rally in 2016 we have raised nearly £10,000 as our contribution towards the overall total raised which now exceeds £300,000.  We have already started our fundraising for 2019 and we are hoping to raise at least £5,000 for our chosen charities.

As ever we are expecting strong competition but we are confident that our team of Samantha Hanks (UK Sales Manager, Cembrit) and Trevor Mudd (BM & Timber Trading Director, Chandlers) have the creativity, stamina and determination to improve upon their second place in the Vado Rally 2018.

As well as second place overall they were voted Best Dressed Team and Best Dressed Car by the other competitors, bringing home three trophies in total.  In case you can’t tell from the pictures above, last year’s themes were Cops and Robbers (Mad Max), Own Choice (Taxi Driver), Musicians (Yellow Submarine) and Vikings (Minnesota in our case!).  This year the themes we have to work with are London Underground, Superheroes, Back from the Dead, and of course our own choice.

Our car for this year is a 1986 Reliant Rialto with an 850cc engine called Racquel.  We have teamed up with Marc and his students at the Hastings Automotive Training Centre.  They have already got her through her MOT with flying colours and are now working on some extras!

Across the Alps in a three wheeled van is our most ambitious challenge so far and we hope that you will follow Sam and Trevor on their adventures and support them via the links below.
